By Gladys Koilpillai Richards | Secretary of the Board, R.O.S.E.S., Inc.
When my cousin, Jaya, the founder of R.O.S.E.S., Inc., asked me to be part of the Board, I was thrilled and jumped at the opportunity. Ever since I retired more than two years ago, I found myself having all this extra time. I promised myself that when I retired, I wanted to give back my time in some way to a cause.
I also wanted to carry on with our family’s legacy of being involved and serving their immediate community or beyond the borders. Over the years, I have come across family and friends who were suffering from mental illness due to isolation, trauma, disconnection and depression. In the past, I had personally found the benefit of going for counseling when life simply got to be too much. Based on this experience, I was attracted to R.O.S.E.S. knowing that it will make a difference in young people’s mental health. I hope you'll express your care for people you know who might be struggling by contributing to ROSES, as well.
